Banting House NHSC

Back at Banting House!

Hello all!

My name is Kylie Smith, and I will be the student intern at Banting House National Historic Site of Canada this summer. For some of you, my name may sound familiar – I worked at Banting House last year as well. For those of you who do not know me, welcome! I hope to see you this summer, and to keep you up to date with all the goings-on at the museum.

I’ve been quite busy for the last year, finishing my undergraduate degree in history and anthropology at The University of Western Ontario here in London. In September, I’ll be attending Althouse College of Education, also at Western, to become a history teacher.

While my job technically doesn’t start until June, I’ve been back at the museum a fair bit in the last week. There’s always a lot to do around here, whether it’s giving tours or preparing for summer events! I’ve been looking forward to coming back for the summer. I love this job – both the museum and the people who volunteer here (along with the fantastic curator, Grant) make working at Banting House a great experience.

This summer, I’m looking forward to joining the crazy atmosphere of Banting House once again. I’ll get to meet new friends and spend time with old ones – working with the volunteers is always fun and exciting. I’ll get to connect with people from all over the world who come to visit the museum. Also, I will continue working on projects from last year like researching, cataloguing, and of course, writing weekly blog posts!

One event which I missed last year that I’m really looking forward to helping out with is Banting & Friends VIII, the museum’s annual fundraising event. The event is on June 16, and consists of a barbecue and art sale. This year’s fundraising efforts will go towards acquiring a new Banting painting for our art gallery. Last year, I missed Banting & Friends, so I’m excited to get in on the action this time around!

So, until next time, I’ll be busy catching up at Banting House! I’ll be posting weekly on the blog to keep you up-to-date with all the happenings around the museum. I can’t wait to share all the stories and adventures I encounter here with you.

Guess who’s back, back again?

This post was written by Kylie Smith. Kylie recently graduated with a B.A. in history and anthropology from The University of Western Ontario, and will be attending teachers college in the fall.
